  • Bamboo Begin couldn’t win at all in his debut, and in February of his three-year-old year he broke a bone and had to take a break.
  • When he returned in May, he had grown so much and gained so much ability.
He won his comeback race by 5 lengths, then won easily his next two races by 4 and 3+1/2 lengths.
  • In the Kobe Shimbun Hai, he was 3rd favorite.
He lost to Osaichi George by 3+1/2 lengths.
  • In the Kyoto Shimbun Hai, he was 5th favorite.
Osaichi George was 1st favorite and the derby horse, Winners Circle, was 2nd favorite.
Bamboo Begin passed many horses in the home stretch and crossed finish line in 1st place.
  • In the Kikuka Sho, he was 1st favorite.
Winners Circle and Osaichi George ran out of stamina, but Bamboo Begin showed great aptitude for long distances.
He held a good position and took the lead in the home stretch to win.
It was his first G1 win.
  • His connections set their sights on the Tenno Sho (Spring) the following year.
    But he was injured.
For a long time he tried his best to get back on track, but he retired in June 1991.
