  • He was sold to Makoto Kaneko for 97 million yen at the 2001 0-year-old sale and would later be named Black Tide.
It can be said that he was a horse of considerable promise.
(The following year his brother was sold to Makoto Kaneko for 70 million yen, which was less than his, partly because of his poor body.
The brother is the future Deep Impact.)
  • He made his debut in 2003.
He then finished 4th in the Radio Tampa Hai Nisai Stakes and 2nd in the Kisaragi Sho.
  • In the Fuji TV Sho Spring Stakes, he was the 2nd favorite.
Unlike his previous races, he was at the back of the pack at the beginning.
He overtook all the other horses from last place to finish 1st.
He won a grade race for the first time.
Daiwa Major came in 3rd in this race.
  • In the Satsuki Sho, he was the 2nd favorite.
He got off to a slow start and, like Spring Stakes, was in the back of the pack.
In this race, the horses in the front did not slow down, and the horses in the back all lost badly.
    He finished 16th.
    The winner was Daiwa Major.
  • After the Satsuki Sho, he suffered from bowed tendon and was out for two years.
While he was resting, his brother Deep Impact joined the same stable as him and went on to become a very successful Triple Crown winner.
  • In July 2006 he returned to racing.
He remained active until 2008, when he retired after failing to win a single race since his return.

As a sire

  • He was in demand as an inexpensive alternative to the high stud fee Deep Impact.
He was the most frequently bred new stallion in 2009.
His foals debuted in 2012 and he was ranked number one in the first season sire rankings that year.

  • One of his foals was a monster.
Kitasan Black was very successful and was Horse of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
  • He is a inexpensive stallion and the broodmares that come to him are not of very good quality.
Even Kitasan Black was a horse that was only expected to have a low value, purchased for 3.5 million yen, although it was traded directly.
  • Kitasan Black’s success and Deep Impact’s death may have made his treatment a little better, but other than Kitasan Black, none of his foals have won a G1 race.

Black Tide sire line

  • Kitasan Black has been successful as a stallion, producing Equinox, the 2022 Horse of the Year.
  • As of February 2023, Black Tide is old but will sire several horses.
Kitasan Black is still one of Japan’s top stallions despite his young age.
Equinox will be a well-treated stallion in the near future, barring any unforeseen accidents.
Many sires of Sunday Silence sire line, such as Deep Impact, Heart’ Cry, Stay Gold, and Daiwa Major, have had good results, but the most promising and stable Sunday Silence sire line now is probably Black Tide sire line.
