- Daiichi Ruby couldn’t win a grade race when she was 3 years old.
After that her connections decided to run in the races under 1600m. - In the Keio Hai Spring Cup, she won beating Bamboo Memory who was Best Sprinter or Miler (1989,1990).
It was her first grade race win.
And it was her first race with Daitaku Helios. - In the Yasuda Kinen (1991), Daitaku Helios took the lead in the home stretch.
Then Daiichi Ruby came from behind and overtook many horses.
After all Daiichi Ruby won the race.
It was her first G1 win.
(2nd: Daitaku Helios , 3rd: Bamboo Memory) - In the Takamatsunomiya Hai, it was a 2000m race, she lost to Daitaku Helios.
Her dam Hagino Top Lady and her grand-dam Itto had won the race, so if she won the race, it was a victory in the same race for the three generations. - In the Swan Stakes, she lost to K.S.Miracle.
- In the Mile Championship, she was late to start.
She couldn’t catch up with Daitaku Helios. - In the Sprinters Stakes, Daitaku Helios didn’t run in the race because he run in the Arima Kinen.
In the home stretch, K.S.Miracle broke down.
(After that he was euthanized.)
After all Daiichi Ruby was easy to win the race.
Episode (Same discription as Daitaku Helios’ post)
- Daiichi Ruby and Daitaku Helios are often spoken and written together.
The reason is they had similar name (starting “Dai”) and ran many races together. - Especially, it was often spoken as a love story.
There are various reason. - A love story about them was written in popular horse racing manga “Umanari 1 furlong theater” (writer Yoshida Miho).
Here’s part1 of “ヘリオス・ルビー 恋物語 (Helios Ruby: A Love Story)” available for free on netkeiba.
Helios Ruby: A Love Story has parts one through three and extras one and two.
(I think there are no books or services translated into English.)
- In some of the numbered versions of the PC game “Winning Post”, when Daiichi Ruby and Daitaku Helios are mated, a special horse is produced.
- Daiichi Ruby is a well-bred horse.
She had a impression of a gentlewoman of good family.
Daitaku Helios is a unique horse.
He was called such as
“稀代の癖馬 (Rare and Peculiar Horse / Unusual Habitual Horse / Rarely a Quirky Horse)”,
“新聞を読む馬 (Horse reading newspapers)”,
“オッズを見る馬 (Horse checking the odds)” and
“笑いながら走る馬 (Horse running with laughter)”.
It was easy to fantasize and create a story based on these characteristics of theirs. - In the real world, Daitaku Helios was never chosen as Daiichi Ruby’s mating partner.
Episode2
- She hasn’t had a good run since she witnessed breakdown.
This has led some people to fantasize that she was in love with K.S.Miracle.
Some people have fantasies of a love triangle between Daitaku Helios, Daiichi Ruby and K.S.Miracle.
(Of course, they probably don’t actually think that’s the reason she’s no longer having a good run.)
