- She suffered from flexor tendonitis before her debut.
She was even considered for euthanasia at one point.
In 1990 (age 3)
- She ran the classic races and the trial races, but she didn’t win.
In 1991 (age 4)
- In the Keihan Hai, she was 7th favorite.
She won by 1 length.
It was her first grade-race win. - She ran 12 races in this year.
She had two 1st place finishes, two 2nd place finishes and three 3rd place finishes.
In 1992 (age 5)
- She amazingly ran 16 races.
She won four races including three G3 races and finished second twice this year. - She won the JRA Award for Best Older Filly or Mare (1992) because the other old mares were not so active.
In 1993 (age 6)
- In the Yasuda Kinen, she was 14th favorite.
She lost to Yamanin Zephyr, but she ran well and finished 2nd.
She surpassed the record held by Daiichi Ruby to become the top prize money earner of all time as a mare. - In the Takarazuka Kinen, she was 8th favorite.
She lost to Mejiro McQueen and finished 2nd.
She was the first mare to earn 500 million yen in prize money. - She retired at this year.
A week after she retired, Shinko Lovely won the Mile Championship, surpassing her earnings to become the top mare of all time.
Episode
- She’s run a total of 51 races.
She was called “鉄の女 (the Iron Lady)” for her sturdiness.
This is my personal opinion, but when Japanese people hear the words “鉄の女 (Iron Lady)” and “鉄人 (Iron Man / Iron Woman),” they often think of sturdiness or someone who is active for a long time without getting injured.
(And I think in the case of foreigners, it is often used to refer to overwhelming strength and especially in the case of women, women who win over men.)
In the world’s horse racing industry, there are Iron Ladies such as Triptych, who was active in various countries such as Ireland, and Lady’s Secret, who was active in the United States. - According to Mejiro McQueen’s connections like Yutaka Take, who is the main jockey of Mejiro McQueen, Mejiro McQueen loved Ikuno Dictus.
Apparently, Mejiro McQueen fidgeted when she was near him.
Her connection’s first choice for a mating partner was Mejiro McQueen.
The foal she had at that time was not active.
(As a side note, Northern Taste, Dictus and Mejiro McQueen is a lineage that reminds of the later Dream Journey, Orfevre brothers and Gold Ship.) - Her sturdiness continued into old age, and she seemed to have been in good health until a day before her death at the age of 32.
