- Lys Gracieux had shown stable performance since she was two years old.
But she was a horse that couldn’t win much.
- In the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2018, Kyoto), she was 3rd favorite.
Her jockey was João Moreira.
She passed about 10 horses in the home stretch and won.
Her first G1 victory was late, in November when she was four years old.
- Her trainer Yoshito Yahagi said “She evolved three times when she was 5 years old”.
First, before the Takarazuka Kinen.
Second, while the expedition to Australia.
Third, before the Arima Kinen. - In the Takarazuka Kinen, her jockey was decided Damian Lane.
She followed Kiseki as he made a pace at the front of the pack.
She overtook Kiseki and won by 3 lengths. - In the Cox Plate, Lane’s riding was not good.
She had to run longer than the other horses.
But she accelerated in the short home stretch and passed the other horses.
She was noticeably different from the other horses.
She won the race by 1.5 lengths. - Before the Arima Kinen, Damian Lane was granted a one day limited license by JRA.
In this race, 11 G1 horses including Almond Eye gathered.
She was 2nd favorite and Almond Eye was by far the most favorite.
Damian Lane made a movement in the last corner.
She ran from the rail to outside and overtook about 8 horses.
She won by 5 lengths.
Lys Gracieux and Damian Lane showed a great performance.
- She had excellent performances in the last three races, so she was also expected the next year.
But due to the rules of her owner Carrot Farm, she retired.
Her trainer Yoshito Yahagi and her jockey Damian Lane said “It’s a shame. (She could do more.)” about her retirement. - Her ability to grow up was out of the ordinary.
