- Mr Melody was born in the U.S. and came to Japan.
Since his debut, he has run four dirt races and won two. - In the Chunichi Sports Sho Falcon Stakes, it was his first race on turf.
He won the race against Mozu Superflare and Danon Smash, who would later win G1 races.
It was his first grade race win. - He then finished 2018 with a 4th-place finish in the NHK Mile Cup, losing to Keiai Nautique, and a 2nd-place finish in the Hanshin Cup.
- In the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, he was the 3rd favorite.
He took the lead in the homestretch and won by 1/2 lengths over Seiun Kosei.
It was his first G1 win. - In the 2019 Centaur Stakes and Sprinters Stakes he lost to Tower of London.
He tried a dirt race, the JBC Sprint, but finished 6th. - In the first half of 2020, he had difficulty racing and ran in the Yasuda Kinen in June but finished 11th, beaten by Gran Alegria.
In the second half of the year, he finished 4th in the Sprinters Stakes, also losing to Gran Alegria.
He retired after the JBC Sprint (2020) and became a stallion.
As a sire
- His sire, Scat Daddy, was a very successful stallion who died prematurely.
He was offered to be Scat Daddy’s successor by a number of foreign countries, but for the time being, he is a stallion at Yushun Stallion Station in Japan.
He won the Takamatsunomiya Kinen with Yuichi Fukunaga, just a few days after King Halo’s death…
Yuichi Fukunaga was King Halo’s jockey, but Yoshitomi Shibata rode King Halo in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen when King Halo won.
The second place finisher, beaten by King Halo by a neck, was Divine Light with Yuichi Fukunaga.
Fukunaga commented at the time that “the horse I most didn’t want to be there was in front of me.”
By the way, Divine Light later worked as a stallion in France and Turkey.
His foal Natagora won the Cartier Racing Award for Two-Year-Old Filly.
Many of his foals are successful in Turkey as well, and there seems to be successors to him.
