- In the Mainichi Hoso Sho Kyoto Yonsai Tokubetsu, he won by 1/2 lengths.
He got the right to run in the Derby. - In the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), he was 3rd favorite.
Silk Justice and Mejiro Bright were at the back of the pack of horses, and they kept each other in check.
They ended up not being able to catch up with Sunny Brian, who was in the lead.
It was a strategy win for Sunny Brian’s jockey, who had said and done things before the race to make sure that Sunny Brian would not be marked.
Silk Justice finished 2nd. - In the Kikuka Sho, the third classic race, he was 1st favorite.
He was expected to win the classic race but finished 5th. - In the Arima Kinen (1997), he was 4th favorite.
Marvelous Sunday was 1st favorite and Air Groove was 2nd favorite.
Air Groove took the lead at the beginning of the home stretch.
Marvelous Sunday competed side by side with Air Groove.
Silk Justice passed them just before the finish-line.
It was his first G1 win. - He had some good runs after that, but never won a race.
Episodes (Silk Justice & Erimo Dandy)
- There was a horse named Erimo Dandy who was the same age as him and in the same stable.
Erimo Dandy was so small that he was bullied by the other horses in the farm.
Perhaps that was why they stayed closer to the farmers than other horses, so that they could be protected by the farmers.
He was very friendly, trusting and obedient to humans because of it.
After he came to the stables, he listened well to the stable people and was loved by them. - Silk Justice was a very temperamental horse, disobeying trainers and jockeys and refusing to train.
The stables were annoyed that he was a horse with good qualities but did not listen to them. - Erimo Dandy was also bullied by the other horses at the training center.
It was Silk Justice who helped him when he was being bullied.
Then they became close friends.
Erimo Dandy began to follow behind Silk Jusitice, and Silk Jusitice protected Erimo Dandy like he was the boss of the pack. - Silk Justice and Erimo Dandy ran in the Derby and the Kikuka Sho together.
- After Silk Justice ran in the Kobe Shimbun Hai in September of 1997, the trainer made them each other’s training partners and had them train together.
Silk Justice learned Erimo Dandy’s obedience to humans, and Erimo Dandy learned to be fast enough to keep up with Silk Justice. - They showed the results of their training.
Erimo Dandy won the Keihan Hai (G3) in November of 1997.
Silk Justice also won the Arima Kinen. - In January of 1998, Erimo Dandy finished 2nd in the Kyoto Kim-Pai (G3) and won the Nikkei Shinshun Hai (G2).
However, he found out after the Nikkei Shinshun Hai that he had a broken bone.
He died of an intestinal bowel strain at the February of 1998, probably due to stress while resting from a broken bone. - Silk Justice lost his training partner, which caused him to once again disobey humans and not take his training seriously.
It is sometimes said that the reason Silk Justice couldn’t win anymore is because Erimo Dandy was dead.
